NotesEdit
Marvel Ultimate Alliance is an action role playing released by Raven Software and Activision in October 2006 in US Previously referred to as Marvel Legends, this game features over 24 playable characters and 140 character appearances.
- Requirements: Wilie support, Xbox Live, PNP, WiiConnect24, Internet
- Input: Mouse, keyboard, SIXAXIS Controller, Xbox 360 wireless controller, Wii Remote, Nunchuk
FeaturesEdit
The game features over 140 characters from the Marvel Universe. Players are able to create teams, and have online and co-operative play, for up to four players. In arcade mode players will have to fight for the most kills in order to get the experience points at the end of the level. There are also special comic book missions, revisiting a moment in a character's past and facing a classic arch rival. Characters may have up to four costumes, which can alter the stats of the character.Players will fight in mid air, underwater and on the ground, with fully destructible and interactive environments in over seventeen locations, traveling around different locales on planet Earth, different dimensions, and even the depths of space by the end of the game. The game has alternative endings, affected by the decisions the player(s) make throughout the game. These endings are based on whether or not the player chooses to complete optional missions. The game is quite rewarding for fans of Marvel's characters, providing lots of bonuses and nods to knowledgeable fans who know their comic history. Putting together teams of characters who have a shared history together, for example, may give team bonuses (ex. using Captain America, Iron Man, Thor and Ms. Marvel on the same team would yield you the Avengers, giving you a boost in attack damage for all team members). Using particular characters to interact with other NPCs can also yield additional dialogue, and villains will also react accordingly when met with their nemeses (for example, Bullseye will talk directly to Elektra upon seeing her in the first chapter). The game also features trivia games, artwork and many more references to the Marvel Universe. While many characters in the game by default are rendered with the appearance they have in the Ultimate Marvel line of comics, the world of the game is predominantly based upon that of the original Marvel Universe, with many villains, character designs and references to events that exist only in that continuity (for example, Galactus is the original Marvel Universe's version, not Ultimate Marvel's hive-minded robotic version).
VersionsEdit
The game is available through several gaming systems.
Game Boy AdvanceEdit
Marvel: Ultimate Alliance has been altered for the Game Boy Advance port and has become a side-scrolling fighting game with minor RPG elements, such as the ability to alter your characters' stats. The graphics are simplified for this system and the selection of characters has also been reduced. Some additional gameplay modes were added into this version of the game including a S.H.I.E.L.D. Simulator, Time Challenges, Scavenger Hunts, and a Survival mode. Teams for this port consist of three characters and a striker, a non-playable fourth character who can be summoned to perform a powerful attack directed toward on-screen enemies. Playable characters include Spider-Man, Wolverine, Iceman, Blade, Captain America, Deadpool, Elektra, Ms. Marvel, Thor, and Thing. Special characters included in the game are Dr. Strange, Ghost Rider, Iron Man, Jean Grey, Namor, and Vision. Spider-Man, Wolverine, and Iceman are the game's starter team but as the game progresses, characters become unlocked as more missions are completed.
PCEdit
The PC version is customizable, and many characters and their skins/meshes can be obtained from modding sites for play within the game, including of having the character who are exclusive to some console ports appeared in this version, but in original edition of PC version only exceed 27 max of character slots. Also, the PC version's graphics vary depending on the customization of a user's settings, while in remastered edition has a much more different, yet improved settings, but has no setting on customize shadow and advance lighting. The PC version also features 'intuitive mouse controls' and works with a gamepad. Currently the remastered edition still cannot add mesh mods, along with the pre-Remastered Edition model files from a certain previous console versions, including the original PC edition model for some reasons other than having a different file offsets. Much worst, even after the patching, the keyboard custom configuration (mostly involving on pressing Tab, Space and L Ctrl to other button function) and the controller mapping (mostly on Xbox and other 3rd-party controllers, except Steam and PS4 controllers) are still messed up, and the controller setting has no custom mapping configuration, as well as no sign of setting the Shadow and Advance Lightning, unlike the original PC.
However as of January 17, 2017 update on Steam, any controllers whether from other home consoles or products for PC only outside Steam Controller can now be customized in Steam Big Picture Mode and uses Controller Configuration recommended by Zoe Mode before starting the game. Unfortunately as of July 19, 2017, the Steam configuration access while using Non-Steam Controllers cause them becoming useless and cannot be played. Until December 16, 2017, it is finally fixed the playability Non-Steam Controllers, by setting on the 'Global PS4/Xbox/Generic' on Controller Option, then re-browse Zoe Mode's recommended Controller Configurations once more.
Playstation PortableEdit
The PSP version features simplified graphics than PS2/Wii versions, different characters, and extra features including the four exclusive playable Marvel characters Black Widow, Captain Marvel, Hawkeye and Ronin. Other things unique to this version are six exclusive survival simulator missions including one which contained the boss exclusive Swordsman, an exclusive prequel mission (which is a Special Mode), and three exclusive single-player gameplay modes. Added features include online play, microphone support (voice chat) and online-recordable player statistics.
Since there's an existing mod programs to mod PSP version, it is now very easy to add mods, such as adding Colossus and Moon Knight, along with the five simulations and upgrading Hawkeye into similarly to his current Xbox 360 DLC version.
WiiEdit
The Wii version has a few features unique to its version including specific motion-sensitive controls for normal moves, Motion-sensitive controlled Special attacks, unique for each character, and access to any special move at any time. In this version there is no online play, but there is a normal multiplayer mode in which up to four players may play at once. It also features the characters Moon Knight and Colossus, and the five simulations. Samus and Link were going to be Unlockable characters in this version, but Nintendo demanded their removal.
The PSP exclusive contents like characters Black Widow, Captain Marvel, Hawkeye and Ronin, along with the unique to this version are six exclusive survival comic book missions are found unused on disk, as they were originally planned to be Wii exclusive as well. It requires a hard time to add the, via mods.
Xbox 360 and PS3/Xbox One and PS4Edit
The Xbox 360 version and the Playstation 3 version are virtually identical, with no major differences apart from the PS3's SIXAXIS controller. This is carried on Xbox One and PlayStation 4 versions, with a little differences.
Prior the 2016 remastered edition release, Activision released eight additional downloadable characters on the Xbox 360 via the Xbox Live Marketplace on April 26, 2007 in a set of packs: a hero and villain pack, both costing 500 Microsoft points each. However, if desired, the user may download both in a bundle pack, slightly reducing the overall cost of both separate for 800 Microsoft points. Four heroes are included, being Cyclops, Nightcrawler, Hawkeye, and the Hulk. There are also four villains - Magneto, Sabretooth, Venom, and Dr. Doom. Marvel: Ultimate Alliance: Gold Edition was released for the Xbox 360 on May 22, 2007. It has all eight downloadable heroes and villains that were originally available only on the Xbox 360 through download on Xbox Live. It also includes twelve new Xbox LIVE achievements and exclusive character costumes.Marvel: Ultimate Alliance: Special Edition (Platinum Hits) was released for the Xbox 360 on September 25, 2007. The feature set includes all of the Gold Edition extras and a bonus DVD.Marvel: Ultimate Alliance was also released as a companion with Forza 2 in specially marked Xbox 360 consoles during the Christmas season 2007. This release contains a copy of the initially released version of the game.As of December 2009, the DLC was removed from the Xbox LIVE Marketplace by Activision, meaning the only way to play as the downloadable characters is to purchase the Gold Edition or the Platinum Hits version. Until September 8, 2015's re-release on Xbox 360's Live Marketplace as part of the Games on Demand, the downloadable characters pack is now bundled with the full game itself.
PlayStation 2Edit
The PlayStation 2 version is the identical to Wii version, except without Colossus and Moon Knight, even the five simulations in it for some unknown reasons.
On August 19, 2007, a Special Edition Greatest Hits version was released for the PlayStation 2, including the game in its original form and a 'bonus' DVD containing a making-of featurette.

A mod requires a hard time to add Colossus and Moon Knight in this version.
XboxEdit
The Xbox version of the game has no changes from the standard PS2 edition, however, a community-based modification has been released which adds Colossus, Moon Knight, Gambit and Angel to the game.
[1]The mod includes new team bonuses for the characters, as well as updates and fixes for existing characters. An update was planned for summer of 2008 which does include additional features and fixes. All four exclusives are courtesy of Teancum of Marvel Mods, who took up the project.
TriviaEdit
- Thor is the only hero mentioned by name during the Villains' cuts scenes, otherwise the heroes are only referred to as 'the heroes' or, in Nightcrawler's case, 'the mutant'.
- In Marvel Ultimate Alliance, besides Colossus, Cyclops, Hulk and Magneto, who also playable in certain consoles/conditions, Psylocke, Professor X, Beast, Forge, Gambit, Emma Frost, Shadowcat, Quicksilver and the Punisher appears as NPC. They are seen unconscious in Castle Doom. Although in gameplay, Psylocke can be seen as a corrupted Doom/Dark Hero Boss, Dark Psylocke, along with the dark form of the recently playable characters Colossus and Cyclops.
- The character slots revealed to have some different maximum of slots in different consoles to add more characters via mods:
- PS2, PS3, Xbox, and original PC (default): 27 (2 empty spots for Moon Knight and Colossus outside PS3, 1 defaultman and 1 empty spots for another selected character)
- PSP, and Wii: 30 (2 empty spots for Moon Knight and Colossus on PSP, 4 empty spots for PSP default only characters on Wii, 1 defaultman and 1 empty spot for some selected hidden character)
- Xbox 360 and Remastered Edition (PS4, Xbox One and current PC): 34 (1 defaultman)
- Original PC (modded): 39 (by default, only via Limit Adjuster mod: Mixed between Xbox 360/Remastered Edition (Colossus’ slot based on this version) and PSP/Wii slots (including 1 defaultman) and 1 empty spot for another selected character)
- For little reasons due to file size reasons on the game, other versions outside Xbox 360 (safe for Gameboy Advance due to not having a similar gameplay), didn't received any second Edition updates, even released in Playstation Store for Playstation 3 and Portable. Especially that the DLC/second edition of Xbox 360 version itself didn't add any contents from PSP (such as the other 3 characters than Hawkeye, and missions).
- With the re-release of Marvel Ultimate Alliance series games on the Xbox 360, bundled with the delisted downloadable contents respectively, ever since 2014's Deadpool game's re-release on Steam then remastered to Xbox One and PlayStation 4, also since Soul Calibur II HD remastered, which contains the characters who once appeared in one console exclusive (the guest characters Tekken's Heihachi Mishima (who was PlayStation 2 exclusive) and Todd MacFarlane's Spawn (who was original Xbox exclusive), except The Legend of Zelda's Link due to belong to Nintendo rights and the HD version was not planned for Wii U), and due to this game series' popularity as X-Men Legends series games and the Steam best selling on a certain game ports, there might be possible for this series to have newer edition ports for Steam/PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One mainly.
- This game, along with the sequel was confirmed to be planned on having its remastered edition for Playstation 4, PC and Xbox One
- On July 26th Ports of Marvel Ultimate Alliance and Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2 were released on PS4 and Xbox One
- Unfortunately due to some negative critics for lack of exclusive contents (safe Colossus and Moon Knight characters, as well as the five simulations) that exist from a certain console ports within Ravensoft (primary gameplay) version, Marvel promise to patch the Ravensoft's former system exclusive characters free of charge. Starting from August 30, 2016 on adding Xbox 360 DLC exclusives first. However, PSP exclusives, including Hawkeye's simulations, as well other game issues which was left in Gold Edition and remaining missing files remains.
Easter Egg CoversationsEdit
Just like X-Men Legends II: Rise of Apocalypse, Marvel Ultimate Alliance features Easter Egg conversations with the bosses and NPCs during the various missions. Bellow is the conversation list of all the characters in MUA without the added bonus characters for the other platforms. This list will include the in game dialogs between bosses and players characters to allow the Player to really experience the game with all fully voiced pre battles and situations. tag was found1st and foremost, the reason why it doesn't run initially is because of old CD/DVD DRM that stopped being supported after windows 8. The no cd crack and be found with an easy google search, but the site i recommend is game copy worldTechnical: The game runs just fine, though you should play with a controller because keyboard and mouse on this game is terrible. Key bindings for a controller are available and recommended.
the graphics options are okay, should play at 1080p just fine, but it is a 10 year old game, and also is better than re-released version. I rate this aspect a 2/5 because for a while this game was thought not able to be ran on Win 10. The last supported mod for this game is no longer available for download(I'll explain mods later). For being a game on PC, keyboard and mouse should be prioritized. Online multiplayer is no longer supported for this game, couch co-op might work, but not sure. Though re-release features online.
Game Itself: From playing this game on both the original Xbox and the 360, this is the 'best looking' due to it being able to run 1080p. The story is good for a comic book game that features originally 23 characters (27 for four exclusive to pc were Jean Grey, Emma Frost, War Machine[Iron Man Skin], and Punisher). The game is fairly long if you look for everything, and even better if playing with friends. 4/5.
The problem i have with the pc version, both retail and Steam(with exclusion to Moon Knight and Colossus), is that it never received the Xbox 360 DLC, those being the Heroes and Villains pack each containing four extra characters, and also other console exclusives (PSP and 360), totaling out to 13 characters not being accessible. Later on through Mods, a few fixes and all these characters were added and even the PSP exclusive missions were available. Though this is no longer the case because the last patch to the mod [Official Characters 1.3 RELEASED (24.05.2013)] is no longer available to download, but there is a way to get the 1.2 version through google searching.
All in all though it was a fun game, it is a let down due to the issues of no support after the original release, the mod no longer being available, and less characters compared to the Xbox 360 Gold Edition, which is the all around best version. If you just want to play it, it's the better alternative to the new Steam release which i haven't bothered touching. Remember to go get the no cd crack for windows 8 and up.
For a report on the Steam version, i suggest watching TotalBiscuit's video
